Group Reviews

  • Off Broadstreet – A very fun evening!!!

I went  with a group of 18 (mostly) senior ladies to hear/see this fantastic group.  All of the guys have great voices, a wonderful blend of sounds and some very funny moments.  We all enjoyed it tremendously and would recommend attending their concerts or booking them for private events.  A very fun evening!!!  Thanks.

  • Terrific Show!!!!

I was amazed at how great you guys are. You should be performing on a much bigger stage where thousands could hear you. Terrific Show!!!!

I Want to have a party just to hear them again! -Fran

  • Hospital Auxiliary luncheon

I was fortunate to hear this great ensemble sing at our organization’s holiday luncheon. These are four extremely talented, charismatic musicians who provided a fun and energetic performance that had our (mostly senior) group clapping and dancing along with them! Don’t miss seeing them if you get the chance!!! – Cathy

  • SNMH Auxiliary Luncheon

WOW! What a great group — so entertaining, upbeat and fun. They performed for our hospital volunteer luncheon and everyone enjoyed the performance and was disappointed we didn’t book them for a longer time. Received so many compliments how much luncheon attendees enjoyed performance.

  • The Consolations are on top of doo wop – Paul Cambra

Are they going to change their name?
Last year, the aptly-monikered “Consolations” took second place in the Nevada County Fair Barbershop Quartet Competition. But this year, they came in first.
“During rehearsals for ‘Par Four at the Masters’ we were discussing what we would call ourselves if we went out on our own,” said JR Lewis. “Many comedic replies came up but we all consider ourselves underdogs. None of us are stars; we are more than happy to be runners up.”
The “Par Four” show was an offshoot of “Doo-Wop Shoo-Bop,” both Off Broadstreet productions featuring the quartet of Lewis, Isaias Acosta, Jed Dixon and Andrew Kerr. They’ve since taken that step out on their own, performing at various functions, both public and private. This weekend, they return to the Off Broadstreet stage for two sold-out shows.
“Not everybody gets to sing like this with other people,” said Kerr. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience to get into those tight harmonies with other guys that can really sing. When we get up there and do it correctly, it caresses my soul.”
For Kerr, the more challenging the song, the better. They’ll do four-part harmonies, doo wop and barbershop. Everything from “Stand by Me” to “Coney Island Baby,” a little Beatles, some Beach Boys and, of course, the Four Seasons. And while these far-from-Jersey Boys will perform a good deal without instrumental accompaniment, they will be joined by keyboardist David Blanchard for a portion of the show.

  • We in Nevada County who love live theater are lucky… -Judi K.

I have seen all four of these gentlemen in person many many times over the years, at Off Broadstreet and in Sierra Stages productions.  Individually, they are each wonderfully talented.  But………..put them together as a group as they were in “Doo Wop”, and they are spectacular!!!  Their harmonies are spot on, their charm and charisma are infectious, and their sense of humor and timing are perfect.  We in Nevada County who love live theater are incredibly lucky to have these 4 guys living here and willing to share their talents with us.  I am excited to see what the future holds for them.

  • Don’t miss ‘Doo-Wop Shoo-Bop’

I just saw Off Broadstreet’s latest musical, “Doo-Wop Shoo-Bop.” It is the best show I’ve seen at Off Broadstreet, and I’ve seen a lot of them. Three friends who also saw the performance concur.

The show has a cute premise and a lot of funny lines, but what makes the show so outstanding are the four performers — Jed Dixon, Isaias Acosta, JR Lewis and Andrew Kerr. All have great voices, appealing personas and vibrant energy, and because their voices fit so well together, their harmonies are gorgeous. The very familiar songs — such as “Love Potion #9,” “Poison Ivy” and “Vaya Con Dios,” allow their vocal and acting abilities to shine. The crowd roared its approval after each tune because all were so well done.

Each man has an opportunity to both solo and harmonize. Some of the songs are sung a cappella; Katie Baker’s excellent accompaniment on keyboard backs many tunes. We all laughed and laughed; many of the dance moves, commentary and facial expressions are very humorous, creating an evening of delicious song and comedy. Do not miss this show! You will walk out of the theater with a very broad smile and a happy disposition.
